Los Angeles: President Trump deploys more troops to crack down protests against his immigration policies in the city of Los Angeles (LA) in California.

Around 4,000 National Guard personnel and over 700 active duty Marines are in LA, way more than what Washington sent to Iraq and Syria.

The protests were triggered after authorities stepped up search for migrants residing illegally in the country.

‘There are 4,800 activated Guard and Marine personnel in LA, compared to the 2,500 troops in Iraq and 1,500 in Syria,’ ABC News reported.

Many took a dismal view of the deployment of the troops to manage an internal issue.

Alongside Pentagon stated that engaging troops would cost taxpayers $134 million over 60 days.

The unrest got triggered on June 6 after United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) came for undocumented migrants with cops arresting at least 44 people by June 7 on suspicion of immigration violations.

Residents took to streets protesting against Trump’s immigration policies triggering riots.

President Trump quickly ordered to deploy troops to the city of nearly 3.9 million people without consulting California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Governor Newsom, a Democrat, has accused Trump of trying to escalate the confrontation for political gain, adding that ‘Democracy is under assault right before our eyes’.

During his campaign last year, Trump promised to fight what he said ‘invasion’ of undocumented migrants.

Despite a military-backed crackdown, protesters came out in the streets across the US against Trump’s immigration raids.

In the midst of the bleak situation back home, Trump is set to move US troops out of Middle East saying that it is a ‘dangerous place’.
