London: Musicians in the UK released a silent album protesting against the proposed changes to the country’s copyright laws.

Over 1,000 musicians involved in the protest bringing out the album, titled 'Is This What We Want?'

Featuring 12 tracks it combines to create the sentence ‘The British government must not legalise music theft to benefit AI companies’.

Musicians are concerned over proposed change to the copyright laws, which they fear would allow AI models to train on their works without artists having any control over works.

The artist in the UK have control over how their work is used; however the proposed law would allow AI companies to train AI models on any materials.

Given this, creators would be required to opt out to prevent their work from being used.

Artists allege that the changes in the law would reverse the principles of copyright law with tech companies getting exclusive control of their work, according to a report by Reuters.

Pointing to the potential impact of the proposed changes in the law, the album ‘features recording of empty spaces and studios’.

A spokesperson for UK government reportedly said that the existing laws hold back the AI sector from ‘realising their full potential.’

The spokesperson reportedly said: ‘We have engaged extensively with these sectors throughout and will continue to do so. No decisions have been taken.’

Musicians including Annie Lennox, Billy Ocean, Hans Zimmer, Tori Amos and The Clash have urged the government to reconsider its move.
