Washington: US President Donald Trump has issued a threat that additional tariff will be imposed on countries aligning with the ‘Anti-American policies’ of BRICS, Reuters reported.

The warning comes amid the BRICS summit opened on Sunday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, and China and others gathered to discuss global health, trade, investment and development financing, climate change response, among other topics.

Taking note of the growing geopolitical gravity of the grouping, Trump warned that any country aligning with the ‘anti-American policies’ of the grouping will be slapped with additional 10 tariff.

‘There will be no exceptions to this policy. Thank you for your attention to this matter,’ Trump posted on Truth Social.

However, Trump did not make clear what ‘Anti-American policies’ the group was pursuing.

The first summit of the BRICS summit saw leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, and China gathering at in 2009, to become a major global grouping.

Later, expanding the group South Africa Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia came onboard.
