Zelensky ‘obsessed with continuing war’, US visit ‘complete failure’: Russia

Moscow: Russia on Saturday denounced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the United States, calling it a "complete political and diplomatic failure" of the Kyiv regime. The statement followed a high-profile confrontation between Zelensky and former US President Donald Trump, along with Vice-President J.D. Vance, during his meeting in the Oval Office.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova accused Zelensky of being "inappropriate, corrupt, and incapable of reaching an agreement," reiterating Moscow’s stance that Kyiv had abandoned political and diplomatic negotiations in the spring of 2022. She claimed Ukraine had used "lies and manipulation" to justify the continuation of the war while securing Western military and financial aid.
Zakharova further described Zelensky’s conduct in Washington as "outrageously boorish," branding him as the "most dangerous threat to the world community" and an "irresponsible instigator of a major war." She asserted that his aggressive stance should be recognized globally, likening him to the leader of a terrorist organization.
Continuing her attack, Zakharova called Zelensky a "cynic who disdains nothing," accusing him of usurping power, crushing the opposition, establishing a totalitarian state, and sending millions of Ukrainians to their deaths. According to her, the Ukrainian leader, facing worsening political conditions, remains obsessed with war and rejects any possibility of peace, which she claimed he views as his downfall.
Moscow also described the way Zelensky was "dressed down" in the White House as unprecedented in international political and diplomatic history. The Russian Foreign Ministry reiterated its position that lasting peace can only be achieved by addressing the root causes of the Ukraine crisis. According to Moscow, these include NATO’s broken promises not to expand eastward, its absorption of Europe’s geopolitical space up to Russia’s borders, and what it called the Kyiv regime’s systematic destruction of Russian culture, language, and the Orthodox Church, comparing these actions to those of Nazi Germany.
