DRDO chief Samir V Kamat granted second one-year extension by government

The Central government has approved a second one-year extension for Samir V Kamat, Chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development (DDR\&D).

His extended tenure will now continue until May 31, 2026.

Kamat, a distinguished scientist, was first appointed to the dual roles on August 25, 2022. He received his first one-year extension on May 27, 2024, which was set to conclude at the end of May 2025.

According to a statement from the Personnel Ministry, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has sanctioned the latest extension under Fundamental Rule 56(d), which permits the government to prolong the service of officials in select roles when deemed to be in the public interest.
