Gujarat retains top spot as India’s leading exporting state in 2024-25: FIEO

Gujarat has once again emerged as the top exporting state in India for the financial year 2024-25, according to the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO).

The state recorded outbound shipments worth Rs 9.83 lakh crore, representing 26.6% of India’s total exports.

Despite a slight decline compared to the previous year, Gujarat’s export performance continues to surpass all other states by a wide margin, maintaining a lead of approximately Rs 4.3 lakh crore over Maharashtra, which secured second place with exports valued at Rs 5.57 lakh crore.

Maharashtra was followed by Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, according to FIEO's analysis.

“In 2024-25, Gujarat reaffirmed its leadership as India's top exporting state, accounting for Rs 9.83 lakh crore, which is 26.6% of the country's total exports,” FIEO stated in its report.

The state's strong export performance continues to be fueled by a handful of high-performing districts. Jamnagar, in particular, stood out with exports worth Rs 3.63 lakh crore, largely attributed to its robust petroleum and refinery industries, contributing over one-third to the state’s total.

The top five export commodities from Gujarat in 2024-25 were:

  • Petroleum Products
  • Gems and Jewellery
  • Organic Chemicals
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Engineering Goods (Machinery)

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh contributed Rs 1.86 lakh crore to the nation’s total exports of Rs 37.02 lakh crore, representing 5% of the overall figure. This places UP as a key player in India's export framework.

“Uttar Pradesh has demonstrated a commendable diversification in its export markets, reaching both traditional and emerging economies across continents,” the FIEO report noted. The United States continues to be the top export destination for the state.
