Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Bihar’s Siwan district today to launch a series of key infrastructure and development projects worth ₹5,700 crore.
The visit underscores the Centre’s increasing focus on Bihar's growth ahead of the upcoming state elections.
According to the official schedule, PM Modi will address a public gathering around noon, following the foundation-laying and inauguration ceremony.
A major highlight of the visit is the inauguration of the Vaishali-Deoria railway line, developed at a cost of over ₹400 crore. A new passenger train service on this route will also be flagged off.
In addition, the Patliputra-Gorakhpur Vande Bharat Express—via Muzaffarpur and Bettiah—will be launched, enhancing high-speed rail connectivity in the region.
As part of the 'Make in India - Make for the World' initiative, the Prime Minister will also dispatch the first export locomotive built at the Marhowra manufacturing plant. This high-power locomotive, equipped with advanced AC technology and regenerative braking, is bound for the Republic of Guinea.
PM Modi’s visit also includes a major environmental focus. Under the Namami Gange initiative, six new sewage treatment plants (STPs) worth ₹1,800 crore will be inaugurated to boost sanitation and reduce pollution in multiple towns.
Additionally, foundation stones will be laid for STPs, sanitation, and water supply projects exceeding ₹3,000 crore, aiming to provide clean drinking water to thousands of households.
In the renewable energy sector, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The system will consist of standalone storage units installed at 15 substations across Bihar, including Siwan, Muzaffarpur, Bettiah, and Motihari.
In the housing sector, more than 53,600 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban (PMAY-U) will receive their first instalment of financial assistance. Modi will also hand over keys to some of the 6,600 newly constructed homes, celebrating their official housewarming, or Grih Pravesh.
This marks PM Modi’s second trip to Bihar within a month and his fifth visit in 2025.
