Kozhikode: A tragic incident occurred at Thikkodi Drive-In Beach in Kozhikode on Sunday evening when four people drowned after being swept away by strong waves. The incident took place around 5 pm when a group of 22 people, including gym trainers, visited the beach for a leisure outing.
Five members of the group ventured into the sea to bathe, but strong waves caught them, putting their lives at risk. Local residents, noticing the situation, quickly intervened and managed to pull all five out of the water. They were rushed to Koyilandy Taluk Hospital for medical attention. Despite efforts to save them, four individuals succumbed to their injuries, while one, Jincy, remains in critical condition and is receiving treatment.
The deceased were identified as Faisal, Vineesh, Anisa, and Vani, all residents of Kalpetta in Wayanad district. The group had gathered for a holiday outing, and the tragic loss of lives has left their families devastated.
The bodies have been transferred to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination, and the police are investigating the incident.
