New Delhi: India football head coach Manolo Marquez has stepped down from his role following a mutual agreement with the All India Football Federation (AIFF), after a series of poor performances by the national team. The decision was made during an AIFF Executive Committee meeting held on Wednesday in New Delhi.
Despite having one year remaining on his contract, Marquez expressed his desire to step down, which the AIFF accepted. “The AIFF and Manolo decided to mutually part ways without any financial implications to either party. He is relieved from his role as India coach, and the AIFF will shortly advertise the position,” said AIFF Deputy Secretary General K Satyanarayana.
Marquez, who was appointed in June 2024 on a two-year contract, oversaw a challenging spell for the Indian team, managing only one win in their last eight matches. His departure comes amid growing scrutiny over the team’s recent performances on the international stage.
