Mumbai City has announced the departure of winger Bipin Singh as his contract concludes on May 31, marking the end of a remarkable seven-year journey with the club. In a fitting tribute to his legacy, the club has decided to retire his jersey number 29, recognising his extraordinary contributions both on and off the field.
Hailing from Manipur, Bipin joined Mumbai City in 2018 after spells with Shillong Lajong and ATK. He quickly established himself as a vital part of the Islanders’ setup and went on to become the most capped player in the club’s history, registering 158 appearances and netting 28 goals. Over the years, he played a central role in some of Mumbai City's most historic achievements.
Bipin was instrumental in the club's iconic 2020-21 campaign when Mumbai City became the first team to win both the Indian Super League (ISL) Cup and the League Winners’ Shield in a single season. His unforgettable match-winning goal in the final against ATK Mohun Bagan sealed the double and etched his name in ISL folklore. He replicated this feat in the 2023–24 season, again delivering a crucial goal in the final to help the club lift their second ISL Cup. He also played a part in Mumbai City’s 2022–23 League Shield triumph.
Expressing his emotions at parting ways with the club, Bipin said, “It’s hard to say goodbye, but I leave with nothing but gratitude in my heart. Mumbai City has been my home for seven unforgettable years; this club has given me everything. To the fans, teammates, staff, and everyone who’s been part of this journey, thank you for the love and belief. Mumbai City will always be a part of me.”
Kandarp Chandra, CEO of Mumbai City, paid tribute to Bipin’s journey: “Bipin’s journey with Mumbai City has been truly special. Over the years, he’s made a meaningful impact on and off the pitch, delivering key moments and showing unwavering commitment to the club. His connection with our fans and his contributions to our success speak for themselves. As we bid farewell, with immense gratitude and pride, retiring the No. 29 jersey is a small gesture to honour everything he has meant to us and the legacy he leaves behind. He will always have a place in the Mumbai City family.”
Sujay Sharma, Director of Football at Mumbai City, also acknowledged Bipin’s legacy, stating, “Bipin has been a pillar of our squad through the most historic moments in the club's timeline. He complemented this with key goal contributions and a positive team persona on and off the pitch. We thank him for everything he's done for the club, and wish him and his family the very best in their future, as he moves on to his next chapter.”
Bipin Singh departs Mumbai City as a legend of the club, leaving behind a legacy of commitment, success, and unforgettable moments that will be cherished by fans and teammates alike.
