Cricketer Rinku Singh engaged to Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj
text_fieldsLucknow: Indian cricketer Rinku Singh got engaged to Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj on Sunday in Lucknow, with their wedding date set for November 18 at the Taj Hotel in Varanasi.
The engagement ceremony was attended by the families of both Rinku and Priya, along with several prominent leaders, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple Yadav, Jaya Bachchan, Ram Gopal Yadav, and Shivpal Yadav. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla also joined the celebrations to extend his best wishes to the couple. However, several of Rinku’s teammates were unable to attend, as the Indian Test squad had already departed for England ahead of the Test series starting June 20. Former India cricketer Praveen Kumar was present and conveyed his heartfelt wishes on this special occasion.
Rinku Singh, originally from Aligarh, has represented India in two One Day Internationals and 33 Twenty20 Internationals over the past few years. He is a key player for the Kolkata Knight Riders, who clinched the IPL title in the 2024 season. Priya Saroj, 26, is a first-time MP representing Jaunpur’s Machhlishahr constituency. A practicing advocate known for her legal expertise and youthful energy, Priya is among the youngest members of India’s Parliament.
Priya hails from Karkhiyaon village in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi district and has carried forward her father’s political legacy. Her father, Tufani Saroj, is a three-time MP and currently serves as MLA from Kerakat in Uttar Pradesh. Priya began her political career in 2024 after winning the Machhlishahr parliamentary seat by defeating BJP veteran BP Saroj by over 35,000 votes.
Her uncle, Bhagwati Charan Saroj, expressed happiness about the union, saying, “Both families and the couple are very happy. Priya became the youngest Member of Parliament with a record-breaking victory, and Rinku Singh is a well-known cricketer with a strong following. This match has come together with the blessings and consent of both families, and everyone is truly happy about it.”
