Pakistani actress Hania Aamir has clarified that a statement circulating on social media, attributing her comments to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the restriction of Instagram accounts, is entirely false.

In the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the deaths of 25 Indian tourists and a Nepalese citizen, tensions between India and Pakistan escalated, leading to the restriction of several Pakistani celebrities' Instagram accounts in India, including Hania's.

The viral post falsely claimed that Hania had urged Modi to reconsider the decision.

However, the actress took to her Instagram Stories to set the record straight, stating, “A statement has been falsely attributed to me and is being widely circulated on social media. I want to address this directly: I did not make this statement, and I do not endorse or align with the words being linked to me."

Hania emphasised the sensitivity of the situation, expressing her sorrow over the tragedy: "My heart goes out to the innocent lives lost and the families affected by the recent tragedy. Pain like this is real, and it deserves empathy - not politicisation.” She urged people to avoid assigning blame without evidence, as doing so only exacerbates divisions and hinders the path to healing.

She further noted, “In times like these, it's easy to let emotions cloud our judgment, but we must remember: the actions of extremists do not represent an entire nation or its people.”

Despite her Instagram being restricted in India, Hania's statement has been widely shared on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) by her supporters. Hania concluded her message by appealing to her fans: "I remain committed to spreading positivity and respect in all that I do. Let us honour those impacted by choosing empathy, truth, and togetherness."

In addition to Hania Aamir, other Pakistani celebrities such as Ali Zafar, Sanam Saeed, Bilal Abbas, Momina Mustehsan, Iqra Aziz, Imran Abbas, and Sajal Aly have also faced restrictions on their Instagram accounts in India. The controversy surrounding these bans has been amplified by the ongoing political climate following the Pahalgam attack.

The tragic incident, which occurred on April 22, has reignited calls to ban Pakistani artistes in India, with a similar ban previously imposed following the 2016 Uri attack. However, in 2023, the Bombay High Court ruled in favor of cross-border cultural exchange, stating that such petitions had "no merit."
