London: Filmmaker Joseph Kosinski has expressed his interest in uniting Hollywood stars Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt for a potential sequel to his latest film 'F1', envisioning a crossover with 'Days of Thunder'.

Kosinski, who had previously hoped to cast the duo in 'Ford v Ferrari', is now looking to bring Cruise and Pitt together in a new project that combines their iconic racing characters—Cole Trickle from 'Days of Thunder' and Sonny Hayes from 'F1'.

“Well, right now, it'd be Cole Trickle, who was (Cruise's) 'Days of Thunder' character. We find out that he and (Pitt's) Sonny Hayes have a past... They were rivals at some point, maybe crossed paths,” Kosinski said in an interview with GQ Magazine UK.

Cruise and Pitt have shared the screen only once before, in the 1994 horror fantasy 'Interview with the Vampire', directed by Neil Jordan. The film followed Pitt’s character Louis, who, after the death of his wife during childbirth, is drawn into a dark new world when he meets Cruise’s Lestat de Lioncourt, a vampire who offers him immortality and companionship.

Recalling their off-screen dynamic, Kosinski added, “I heard about this epic go-kart battle on 'Interview With the Vampire' that Brad and Tom had, and who wouldn’t pay to see those two go head-to-head on the track.”

Kosinski’s latest film 'F1', which stars Brad Pitt as retired driver Sonny Hayes, released on June 27 and also features Kerry Condon in a key role.

'Days of Thunder', directed by Tony Scott, was released theatrically on June 27, 1990, and starred Cruise as a hotshot NASCAR driver, cementing his legacy in the genre of action-packed motorsports films.
