Mumbai Police has filed a comprehensive 1,000-page chargesheet in connection with the brutal stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, which took place at his Bandra residence on January 16 this year. The chargesheet, submitted under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Passport Act, names Shariful Islam Shehzad as the sole accused in the case.

According to the police, Shehzad unlawfully entered Khan’s 12th-floor apartment in Bandra with the intention of robbery and theft. Upon being discovered, he allegedly launched a violent attack on the actor, stabbing him multiple times with a knife. The assault left Khan seriously injured, necessitating emergency surgery.

The weapon used in the attack was later recovered in parts. A fragment of the knife was extracted from Khan’s back during medical treatment, while the handle was found discarded in a nearby pond. Forensic analysis has confirmed that all three recovered pieces, those from the crime scene, the actor’s body, and the suspect, belong to the same knife.

Among the other critical pieces of evidence collected is a cap believed to have been worn by the accused, which was recovered from the crime scene and sent for DNA testing. The chargesheet also includes testimonies from key witnesses, including members of Khan’s household staff, his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan, and several others.

Detailing the incident, Saif Ali Khan told Bombay Times that he and Kareena were asleep when a house-help raised an alarm after spotting an intruder inside the room of their younger son, Jeh. Rushing to the scene, Khan confronted the man, who was reportedly armed with two knives. In the scuffle that followed, Khan was stabbed multiple times.

The 54-year-old actor was immediately taken to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove a knife fragment dangerously close to his spine. He was discharged after five days of treatment. The accused, Shehzad, was arrested two days later.

Mumbai Police stated that the chargesheet contains several crucial pieces of forensic and circumstantial evidence linking Shehzad to the attack, underscoring the severity and premeditated nature of the crime.
