Sitaare Zameen Par opens with Rs 11.5 crore, falls short of Laal Singh Chaddha’s day 1 figures
text_fieldsAamir Khan’s much-anticipated film Sitaare Zameen Par, released in theatres on June 20, started its box office journey with a modest performance.
According to data from Sacnilk, the film earned an estimated ₹11.5 crore on its opening day.
The movie, seen as a spiritual successor to Khan’s 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par, registered an average occupancy of 21.43% in Hindi-speaking regions, with evening and night shows seeing the highest footfalls.
Despite being a big-ticket release, the opening numbers fell just shy of Aamir’s previous film Laal Singh Chaddha, which brought in ₹11.7 crore on its debut day in 2022. However, Laal Singh Chaddha eventually wrapped its theatrical run at around ₹60 crore.
In contrast, Taare Zameen Par had opened with a modest ₹2 crore back in 2007 but grew steadily over time.
While the initial box office figures for Sitaare Zameen Par are not groundbreaking, the film is expected to benefit from positive word-of-mouth and pick up steam over the weekend.
Directed by RS Prasanna, the film features Genelia D’Souza in a prominent role alongside Aamir Khan. The project is backed by Aamir Khan, Aparna Purohit, B Shrinivas Rao, and Ravi Bhagchandka.
