Mumbai: The body of South Indian film producer Sunkara Krishna Prasad Chowdary, known in the industry as NK Chowdary, was discovered at his residence in North Goa on Monday. Chowdary, who had been living in a rented flat in Siolim for the past seven months, was found hanging from a ceiling fan after his friend’s repeated calls went unanswered.

Upon receiving the distress call from the friend, the flat owner was alerted, and the police arrived at the scene. Despite attempts to revive him, doctors at the hospital declared Chowdary dead.

The Goa Police have termed the death suspicious and are investigating the case from all angles. They have not ruled out the possibility of foul play, including the involvement of a drug cartel, given Goa’s reputation for such crimes.

Chowdary, best known for bringing the Rajinikanth-starrer 'Kabali' to Telugu audiences, had faced significant personal and professional challenges in recent years. In 2023, he was arrested by the Cyberabad Special Operations Team in connection with a high-profile drug case. It was reported that he had been struggling with financial difficulties, compounded by pressure from lenders, which may have contributed to his decision to enter the drug trade.

Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that Chowdary had been battling depression and financial pressures following his arrest, which may have played a significant role in his tragic death. Authorities are continuing to probe the matter further, and the producer’s family has been notified.
