Vipul Saini, a 24-year-old man with a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) degree, has been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police from Saharanpur district for allegedly hacking into the Election Commission of India (ECI) website and creating fake voter IDs.

The police found that Saini worked at the behest of Armaan Malik from Madhya Pradesh and created 10,000 fake voter IDs over three months. Saini was paid Rs 100-200 per ID, says Saharanpur Senior Superintendent of Police S Channappa. Rs 60 lakh was found deposited in his bank account. The account has been freezed.

The police are presently investigating the source of the money and trying to find more details about Malik. Malik used to send him details of the day's work, claims Saini. The police have seized two computers from Saini's residence.

The police have informed that authorities in Delhi will now seek the court's permission to take him to Delhi for further probe. Whether he is linked to anti-national or terrorist forces would be probed, they said.

Saini, the son of a farmer, completed his BCA from Gangoh village in Saharanpur.
