6 UP cops suspended over objectionable post on Akhilesh Yadav
text_fieldsFirozabad: Six police personnel in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district have been suspended after a constable posted an objectionable social media status targeting former Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, which was subsequently circulated by others, officials said on Saturday.
According to Superintendent of Police Saurabh Dixit, the objectionable post was uploaded on July 2. The next day, Samajwadi Party district president Shivraj Singh Yadav and former MLA Azim Bhai met Dixit and lodged a formal complaint regarding the matter.
Taking note of the complaint, SP Dixit ordered a probe led by Circle Officer (Sadar) Chanchal Tyagi. Following the inquiry, Constable Pradeep Thakur, posted at the office of the Superintendent of Police (Rural), was found to have uploaded objectionable content as his WhatsApp status. The post was then shared by others, leading to disciplinary action.
Based on the probe findings, Thakur was suspended for initiating the post. Additionally, five others — head constable Kuldeep and constables Rahul, Amit, Arun, and Saurabh, all posted at different police stations in the district — were also suspended for circulating the content, Dixit confirmed.
