941 voters apply for inclusion or removal from Bihar draft roll: ECI
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday said that 941 electors in Bihar have individually submitted applications for the inclusion or removal of their names from the draft electoral roll, while no political party has filed any claims or objections within the first 48 hours of the revision process.
The ECI revealed that from 3 p.m. on August 1 to 3 p.m. on August 3, not a single political party had filed any claim or objection concerning the inclusion of eligible electors or the deletion of ineligible names. This update was shared through the poll panel’s daily bulletin, which tracks the ongoing Special Summary Revision of the voter list.
To facilitate the process, the Commission has set up special camps in all Block-cum-Circle Offices and Urban Local Body Municipal Offices across Bihar. These centres are operational daily, including weekends, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until September 1.
As part of a special campaign initiated by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar on August 1, the Commission is focusing on enrolling young electors turning 18 between July 1 and October 1. Within the initial days of the campaign, 4,374 such young voters submitted their applications along with the required declaration form.
In addition, the Commission has urged all electors to submit fresh photographs to their Booth Level Officers (BLOs) by September 1. These updated images will be used to issue new Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) to eligible voters.
To aid political parties in identifying potential claims and objections, the ECI has already circulated a list of electors who were included in the electoral roll as of June 24 but are missing from the August 1 draft roll. This move is intended to prompt political parties to engage in the verification process.
According to the ECI, 1.60 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs), nominated by district presidents of 12 political parties, are actively participating in the campaign on the ground.
The draft electoral rolls were officially published on August 1 following the Enumeration Phase, which was conducted from June 24 to July 25 under the Special Intensive Revision order. Draft rolls covering all 90,712 polling booths across Bihar’s 243 Assembly Constituencies have been shared with political parties by all 38 District Election Officers (DEOs).
