New Delhi: The government has launched the Aadhaar Good Governance portal to streamline the approval process for authentication requests.

According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), this is in sync with an effort to make Aadhaar more people-friendly, enable ease of living, and enable better access to services for people.

S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), stated that with the launch of this platform and continuous improvement of other processes and systems around it, “we hope to expedite the process of adding more use cases in the domain of good governance and ease of living.”

Bhuvnesh Kumar, CEO of UIDAI, noted that Aadhaar is playing a pivotal role in driving the growth of India's digital economy.

He said Aadhaar is an enabler of good governance, and resident centricity is the focus of UIDAI.

“The Aadhaar good governance portal has been developed to facilitate ease of submission and approval proposals by entities in accordance with the prescribed rules,” Kumar noted.

Aadhaar is recognised as the world's most trusted digital identity, with over a billion Indians placing their trust in it over the past decade. Aadhaar has been used by over 1 billion Indians for authentication more than 100 billion times.

The expanded scope of Aadhaar authentication, as envisaged in the amendment, will further simplify daily life, providing effortless access to newer services of their choice.

The amendment has opened up Aadhaar authentication services to both government and non-government entities, allowing them to provide various services that benefit the public. This includes promoting innovation, spreading knowledge, making life easier for residents, and giving them better access to services.

According to the ministry, this development will facilitate trusted transactions, benefiting both service providers and those seeking services.

The portal will serve as a comprehensive guide, providing detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for entities seeking authentication. It will outline the application and onboarding process for Aadhaar authentication. Additionally, private entities can integrate face authentication into their customer-facing apps, enabling anytime-anywhere authentication.

As part of its mission to make Aadhaar more user-friendly, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has proposed new rules that will allow entities outside of government ministries and departments to use Aadhaar authentication.

The fresh amendment enables Aadhaar number holders to avail hassle-free services from several sectors, including hospitality, healthcare, credit rating bureaus, e-commerce players, educational institutions, and aggregator service providers. Service providers too will find it helpful for a range of things, including staff attendance, customer onboarding, e-KYC verification, exam registrations, etc.
