Kasaragod: A case has been registered against a leader of the Indian Union Muslim League in this north Kerala district over his alleged remarks on a TV channel in connection with the recent terrorist attack in Kashmir's Pahalgam, police said on Friday, reports PTI.
An FIR under section 192 (want only giving provocation with intent to cause riot) of the BNS was lodged against IUML leader Basheer Vellikkoth late Thursday night on a complaint by VHP leader Shaji S P, an officer of Hosdurg police station said.
According to the complainant, on April 23, he came across a Facebook post on a TV channel in which Vellikkoth was allegedly seen making remarks in connection with the terrorist attack that could result in causing a riot.
Police have launched an investigation, the officer said.
Terrorists opened fire at a tourist location near Kashmir's Pahalgam town on the afternoon of April 22, in what is the deadliest attack in the Valley since the Pulwama strike in 2019.
On Thursday, Assam's BJP regime arrested an opposition MLA for saying that Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam and Pulwama attacks were BJP-ruled government conspiracies. It was Aminul Islam, an MLA of the opposition party All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), who issued the statement and got arrested.
The Assam Police filed a case on their own (suo motu) against Mr Islam after a video of his comment went viral on social media.
However, the reasoning by Assam Police is, "On the basis of a misleading and instigating statement by Dhing MLA, Sh Aminul Islam in public, which went viral and had the potential to create an adverse situation, NagaonPS Case 347/25 was registered for offences u/s 152/196/197(1)/113(3)/352/353 BNS. He has been arrested accordingly," which was announced through X.
