Assam evicted 350 more Muslim families on Sunday!

Golaghat/Assam: Assam’s BJKP government continues its hunting of Muslim families in the name of encroachments, as the Himanta Biswa Sarma government targeted 350 Miya Muslim families residing in Nambor South Reserve Forest in Golaghat district here.
The state authorities initiated an eviction drive on Sunday against the said families, while Assamese nationalist groups went door to door threatening the Muslim community to leave Upper Assam. In videos, the nationalist groups were seen warning the Miya Muslims to leave the Sivasagar district in Upper Assam.
A particular video showed a person, identified as Situ Baruah of the Jatiya Sangrami Sena, warning a Miya Muslim man in Hojai district in middle Assam, issuing an ultimatum of 24 hours to the man to leave Upper Assam. The Hindutva leader could be heard saying, “Shut up, you Miya.....Miyas have to vacate Upper Assam within 24 hours.”
Meanwhile, the Golaghat district administration claimed that “encroached areas in Gelajan and 3 No. Rajapukhuri” were cleared, reclaiming nearly 1,000 bighas of land.
Scroll learned from a district official that most of those evicted in the Sunday drive belong to the Miya Muslims, who are of Bengali origin. He claimed that these Muslims encroached on the forest land since the early 1980s, while some of them claimed that they settled on the land in 1978.
Scroll reported that the latest was the 7th eviction drive carried out by the BJP’s Himanta Sarma-led government in Assam since June 16. The authorities have evicted around 5,300 families, most of whom were Muslim Bengali origin, displacing them from their homes. Now, most of them are forced to leave under the open sky or makeshift huts made of tarpaulin tents and sheets.
