Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, a married woman was brutally stabbed to death by her lover in Bengaluru. The accused, a software professional, was arrested after confessing to killing the woman by stabbing her 17 times in a hotel room.

The incident took place at an OYO hotel in Poornaprajna Layout under the jurisdiction of the Subramanyapura police station. The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Harini, a married woman with two children. The accused, Yashas, is a techie who was reportedly in an extramarital relationship with her.

According to police, Harini and Yashas met at a local fair, exchanged contact details, and began communicating frequently. Their relationship developed over time, leading to physical intimacy. However, Harini's husband soon grew suspicious of her behaviour, seized her phone, and restricted her movements, effectively cutting off her contact with Yashas.

Several months later, Harini managed to leave her house and reconnected with Yashas. Investigators revealed that Yashas, who was unable to bear the emotional distance, was mentally disturbed and had resolved to end Harini’s life. On June 6, the two met and checked into the hotel, where the crime unfolded. After getting intimate with her, Yashas stabbed Harini 17 times with a knife before fleeing the scene.

The Subramanyapura police swiftly launched an investigation and apprehended the accused. During interrogation, Yashas confessed to the murder, stating he committed the crime because Harini had been avoiding him. Further investigation is underway to uncover more details about the case.

This horrific incident comes on the heels of another chilling case in January 2024, when Suchana Seth, the CEO of a Bengaluru-based Artificial Intelligence start-up, was arrested for allegedly murdering her minor son and transporting his body in a suitcase. The case sparked nationwide outrage and raised concerns about mental health and domestic trauma.

In another disturbing episode, on January 12, 2011, a 31-year-old Infosys employee, Santosh Sarade, died by suicide after killing his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Riya, reportedly due to work-related stress and depression.

More recently, on November 28, 2022, Bengaluru police arrested a 45-year-old software engineer for allegedly murdering his two-year-old daughter, claiming he was unable to afford food for her.

These recurring tragedies underline the urgent need for greater awareness and support mechanisms addressing emotional distress, domestic conflict, and mental health challenges within both personal and professional spheres.
