New Delhi: BJP Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand, Aditya Prasad, condemned the "ritualistic" killing of a 13-year-old girl in Hazaribagh as a shocking expose of entrenched superstition and black magic in the state.

Raising the matter in the Rajya Sabha, Prasad highlighted the gruesome incident in Kusumbha village under Bishnugarh police station. On March 24 night, the minor was allegedly strangled by her mother, Reshmi Devi (35), as part of a human sacrifice ritual. Police arrested Devi, occult practitioner Shanti Devi (55), and accomplice Bhim Ram.

Authorities said the mother, desperate to cure her youngest son's ailments, followed the tantrik's advice to sacrifice a "virgin girl."

Prasad called it a horrific outcome of blind faith, drawing parallels to a prior case where a mother and her lover sacrificed a child, sparking nationwide outrage. He accused the JMM-led Hemant Soren government of failing to curb such barbaric practices despite recurring human sacrifices and witch-huntings.

"Despite repeated incidents of human sacrifice and witch-hunting in Jharkhand, the state government is showing no serious effort or political will to end these medieval practices," Prasad said, slamming the ruling alliance's insensitivity to women and children in rural, tribal areas.

He demanded a massive awareness drive, strict enforcement of anti-superstition laws, and severe penalties for black magic promoters.

Jharkhand continues to battle such crimes across districts. The NCW has formed a probe panel, and local police launched an SIT. Prasad urged authorities to treat this as a pivotal case against ritual violence.
