New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Thursday arrested Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha days after a Delhi court allowed the central agency to question her, The Indian Express reported.

K Kavitha, who is currently under ED custody at Tihar Jail, has been accused of paying Rs 100 crore to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders in order to obtain liquor licences in the Capital.

Kavitha was arrested from her Banjara Hills residence in Hyderabad on March 15.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja had given permission to the CBI to record Kavitha’s statement at the jail.

The ED had named Kavitha as one of the key conspirators in the case.

Alongside the probe agency in its remand application alleged that Kavitha “conspired with top AAP leaders and gave them kickbacks to the tune of Rs 100 crore, and in exchange, got undue favours in the formulation and implementation of the Delhi excise policy”.

She is accused of having ‘ orchestrated’ a deal with Arvind Kejriwal and former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia.

It is alleged that Kavitha, alongside other members of the ‘South Group’, paid kickbacks through middlemen to gain access to the excise policy formation.
