Ahead of the bypoll to the Khandwa Lok Sabha seat, Madhya Pradesh Congress MLA Sachin Birla on Sunday joined the BJP.

Birla had won the assembly election from Badwah in Khargone in 2018 on a Congress ticket. Though it falls in the Khargone district, it is a part of the Khandwa Lok Sabha seat. The bypoll to four assembly seats, including Khandwa, is scheduled to be held on October 30.

"MLA Sachin Birla joined the BJP in the presence of the chief minister," BJP's media in-charge Lokendra Parashar tweeted. He further shared a video that showed Birla being welcomed by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Agriculture Minister Kamal Patel and other BJP leaders during an election rally at Bedia.
