Jamshedpur: A court here acquitted three Muslim men who were arrested, accusing them of having Al-Qaeda links. The men were acquitted on Friday after the prosecution failed to produce evidence to prove their alleged involvement with the terrorist group, Muslim Mirror reported.

The acquitted were identified as Kalimuddin Mujahid, Mohammad Abdul Rehman Ali Khan and Abdul Shami, who were arrested based on information by the Delhi Special Task Force. While Shami is currently in Ghaghidih Central Jail, Kalimuddin is out on bail. Shami was arrested from Mewat in Haryana in 2019 under the accusation that he has links with an AQIS operative.

In 2016, the Senior Superintendent of Police claimed that the three accused were radicalizing youth and had terror links, which is why police were interrogating them when a Delhi court convicted Shami in 2023 under UAPA and was brought to Jamshedpur.

However, he was acquitted, and following this, the defence lawyer Balai Panda said that all 16 witnesses produced by the prosecution failed to prove the complexity of the accused. He said the court had acquitted them due to a lack of evidence.

Following the court’s decision, the accused are to be released from jail after nine years of imprisonment.
