Delhi bans fuel for vehicles older than 15 yrs after March 31

New Delhi: The Delhi government will prohibit fuel stations from supplying petrol or diesel to vehicles older than 15 years starting March 31, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa announced on Saturday.
The decision follows a high-level meeting with officials to strategize measures to combat air pollution in the national capital. Sirsa emphasized that stringent actions are being taken to curb vehicular emissions and improve air quality.
"We are installing devices at petrol pumps to detect vehicles older than 15 years. Once identified, they will not be allowed to refuel," he said. The Delhi government will also formally communicate this policy to the Union Ministry of Petroleum.
In addition to restricting fuel for aging vehicles, Sirsa announced new pollution control measures, including a mandate for all high-rise buildings, hotels, and commercial complexes to install anti-smog guns to tackle rising pollution levels.
Furthering its commitment to clean energy, the Delhi government plans to phase out nearly 90% of its public CNG buses by December 2025, replacing them with electric buses to promote sustainable urban transport.
These measures are part of Delhi’s broader efforts to combat air pollution, a persistent challenge affecting millions of residents.
