DMDK founder Vijayakanth passes away at age 71

Chennai: Following a prolonged illness, DMDK founder-leader and well-known Tamil actor Vijayakanth passed away here on Thursday.
MIOT International said in a press release: "Captain Vijayakanth was on ventilatory support following his admission for pneumonia. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, he passed away in the morning on 28th December 2023."
The legendary Tamil actor from the past, who was dubbed "Captain" for his unforgettable on-screen military roles, has struggled with his health. The veteran actor reportedly had trouble breathing, which prompted tests and finally led to the diagnosis of a coronavirus infection, as disclosed by his party in a recent statement.
Since November, Vijayakanth has been dealing with health concerns. On December 15, his wife Premalatha Vijayakanth assumed the position of DMDK general secretary.
