New Delhi: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has been asked to substantiate his allegations on social media regarding Union Home Minister Amit Shah's purported calls to 150 district magistrates just days before the scheduled vote counting by the Election Commission. The Election Commission (EC) has set a deadline for Ramesh to provide factual information by this evening.

In its letter to Jairam Ramesh, the EC emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the vote counting process and expressed concern over public statements that could cast doubt on it. The EC noted that no district magistrates have reported any such influence to the election commission under whose jurisdiction they are working, Times of India reported.

The EC urged Ramesh, as a responsible and senior leader of a national party, to provide details of the alleged calls to 150 district magistrates by the home minister, along with the factual basis of his information, by 7 p.m. today. Previously, Jairam Ramesh had claimed on Saturday that Amit Shah had already spoken with 150 district magistrates or collectors, implying desperation on the part of the BJP. He made this assertion in a social media post.

Ramesh further emphasized that the will of the people would prevail, asserting that on June 4th, the BJP would exit and the India Janbandhan would emerge victorious. Ramesh said officers should not get under any pressure and must uphold the Constitution. They are under watch, he added.
