Expecting overnight transformation in J-K 'unrealistic,' says NC chief

Srinagar: National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah emphasised on Thursday that expecting immediate transformation in Jammu and Kashmir under his party-led government, formed last year, is 'unrealistic' given the 'developmental setbacks' of the past decade.
Speaking at a gathering in Reshi Gund, Kralpora, in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the former J&K chief minister highlighted the Omar Abdullah-led administration’s commitment to fostering a new era of governance, centred on active citizen engagement and inclusive policymaking.
"The government's mandate spans five years, and it is unrealistic to expect a newly formed administration to transform the region overnight. The developmental setbacks our region has endured over the past decade cannot be reversed in mere moments; there is no magic solution," Abdullah said.
He acknowledged the hardships endured by the people of Jammu and Kashmir over the past decades. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fulfilling all promises outlined in the party manifesto.
He emphasised that through sustained efforts and active public participation, the NC government has set a clear course to tackle these long-standing challenges.
Despite holding an absolute majority, Abdullah assured that the administration remains dedicated to inclusive governance, avoiding unilateral decision-making in favour of a collaborative approach.
"On the contrary, there is a strong commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that all voices are heard before policies are formulated. With this collaborative approach, I am confident that our region will regain its momentum. Our citizens will soon experience significant improvements across all fronts," he said.
