Final selfie of doctor couple goes viral after Ahmedabad crash kills entire family
text_fieldsAhmedabad: A young doctor couple from Rajasthan, full of hope for a fresh start in the UK, met a tragic end when the Air India flight they boarded with their three children crashed seconds after take-off from Ahmedabad on Thursday. Their final family selfie, taken on board the doomed aircraft, is now a heartbreaking reminder of the lives lost.
Dr Komi Vyas, who previously worked at a hospital in Udaipur, had recently quit her job to join her husband, Dr Prateek Joshi, in London. Dr Joshi had moved to the UK earlier and had returned to his hometown of Banswara just days ago to take his wife and children with him.
"They left for Ahmedabad yesterday to take the flight to London. Prateek had come here just two days ago to take his wife and children with him. Several other members of both families went to see them off," said Dr Joshi’s cousin, Nayan, speaking to NDTV.
The couple, along with their children, twin boys Nakul and Pradyut (5), and their daughter Miraya (8), were on board Air India Flight AI-171 bound for London Gatwick. The aircraft was airborne for only 32 seconds before it failed to gain altitude and plummeted into a residential building, bursting into flames. Of the 242 people on board, only one survived.
A photo taken just before the crash shows Dr Joshi and Dr Vyas smiling from their seats, with their children sitting across the aisle. The image, filled with joy and anticipation, has since gone viral, a haunting glimpse of a family moments before tragedy struck.
What was meant to be the beginning of a new chapter has now become a story of unimaginable loss, with the final selfie serving as a poignant reminder of the lives full of promise, lost far too soon.
