FIR filed after ‘Donald Trump’ applies for residence certificate in Bihar
text_fieldsBihar: A bizarre case has emerged from Bihar’s Samastipur district where an online application was filed in the name of ‘Donald Trump’, claiming the U.S. President to be a resident of Hasanpur village. The district administration swiftly rejected the application and ordered an FIR to track down the prankster.
According to officials, the application was submitted on July 29 through the state’s online portal for residence certificates. The revenue department official concerned examined the submission and rejected it on August 4. The application included a photograph of Trump and listed his parents as Frederick Christ Trump and Mary Anne MacLeod, accurately reflecting the real names of the U.S. President’s father and mother.
The administration suspects deliberate mischief, with the intent to undermine the ongoing special intensive revision of electoral rolls being carried out under the Election Commission's directive. “It appears there is a diabolical attempt to negatively impact the electoral roll revision underway as per EC instructions,” the official statement read.
This is the fourth such incident reported in Bihar since the electoral roll revision exercise began in June. In previous cases, applications were filed in rural Patna and Nawada under the names ‘dog babu’ and ‘dogesh babu’, respectively, both reportedly canines. In East Champaran, an application was submitted in the name of ‘Sonalika tractor’, complete with a Bhojpuri actress’s photograph.
All such applications have been rejected, and FIRs have been filed in the respective police stations. In the case of Samastipur, the administration confirmed that a case has been lodged at the district’s Cyber Police Station for further investigation and action.
The incident took a political turn when senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala shared a news clipping claiming that a certificate had been issued in favour of the Trump application. He alleged it was proof of manipulation in the electoral roll revision process. “This is the biggest proof that electoral roll revision in Bihar is a fraud, aimed at stealing votes. The Congress and Rahul Gandhi are fighting to thwart this design. Keeping quiet in such a situation is a crime. Let us all raise our voices and become watchdogs of democracy,” Surjewala stated.
In response, the Samastipur administration clarified that no certificate had been issued. “The application was deliberately made and was rejected after scrutiny. An FIR has been lodged and the guilty will not be spared,” the statement said.
