Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot on Monday backed Sachin Pilot, rejecting claims by the BJP that the Tonk MLA is not fully committed to the party.

Responding to remarks by BJP state in-charge Radha Mohan Das Agarwal, who had called Pilot an “imposter” and questioned his allegiance, Gehlot said Pilot remains firmly rooted in the Indian National Congress.

“Both of his legs are firmly planted in the Congress, and they will remain there,” Gehlot said, countering Agarwal’s claim that Pilot had divided loyalties.

Gehlot also referred to the 2020 political crisis in Rajasthan, saying those who had strayed from the party would return. He added that Pilot had learned from past developments and had gained clarity.

“I am confident he will never leave us again, and the entire party stands united with him,” Gehlot said.

The remarks came after Agarwal, speaking at a public gathering in Tonk, questioned Pilot’s identity and connection to Rajasthan, alleging he was not originally from the state and criticising his election as MLA.

The exchange has sparked a fresh political confrontation between the BJP and the Congress in Rajasthan.
