Ghaziabad woman accuses husband of harassment; files complaint
text_fieldsA 26-year-old woman has lodged a harassment complaint against her husband and in-laws in Ghaziabad, alleging body shaming, forced exercise, dowry demands, and an alleged forced miscarriage.
According to police, the woman approached the Mahila Thana earlier this week. Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhawal Jaiswal confirmed that an FIR has been registered against the husband, a government school teacher, and his family members. The case has been filed under relevant BNS sections related to dowry harassment, intentional humiliation, and abortion.
The woman, who was married on March 6, alleged in her complaint that her husband made her exercise for over three hours daily and forced a miscarriage despite her pregnancy. She further accused her in-laws of continuous harassment over dowry demands.
She also claimed that her husband was interested in other women and frequently watched objectionable photos and videos on Instagram and YouTube. The DCP stated that an investigation is underway, and all allegations are being verified, the Indian Express reported.
In her complaint she alleged that her husband told her his life had been “ruined” because of her and claimed he could easily find a more attractive partner, comparing her unfavorably to Bollywood actor Nora Fatehi.
She further accused her husband and in-laws of forcing her to work out for three hours every day, adding that if she failed to comply, they would allegedly keep her hungry for several days.
The woman stated that it was an arranged marriage and said her parents had spent significantly on the wedding, gifting jewellery worth ₹16 lakh, a top-variant Mahindra Scorpio worth ₹24 lakh, and ₹5 lakh in cash. Despite these expenses, she alleged that her in-laws continued to harass her for additional dowry.
According to the complaint, the woman also accused her husband of secretly giving her an abortion pill, which led to a forced miscarriage. She said she discovered her pregnancy two months ago and informed her mother-in-law, who allegedly showed no interest. One day, her husband reportedly gave her a pill without explanation.
After she fell ill, her in-laws allegedly dropped her at her parents’ home. As her condition worsened, she was admitted to a hospital, where doctors informed her that she had suffered a miscarriage. She later claimed that her in-laws refused to let her return to their house.
The woman said she later searched online and found that the pill her husband gave her was used to induce abortion.
