Panaji: South Goa Police arrested 20-year-old Soham Sushant Naik, son of a BJP Curchorem Municipal councillor, early Monday amid public outrage over an alleged sex scandal involving 25-30 minor girls.

Naik, from Madegal-Cacora, was detained after citizens and leaders picketed Kudchade police station. Probe reveals a three-year abuse pattern: Naik allegedly had sexual relations with minors, filmed them, and used videos for blackmail.

The scandal erupted last week when Naik boasted at a drinking party, showing explicit footage to friends. Rumours spread, sparking Sunday protests—residents marched demanding a suo motu FIR, threatening a bandh if no arrest within 48 hours.

State Congress president Amit Patkar urged government intervention for a time-bound, impartial probe.

Police are analysing digital evidence to gauge the full extent; Naik remains in custody as forensic teams recover blackmail videos.
