Govindan's problematic Pahalgam statement: Jamaat sends legal notice
text_fieldsKozhikode: Jamaat-e-Islami has sent a legal notice to CPM Kerala secretary MV Govindan over his statement that Jamaat is a prominent organisation that has not taken a stand against the Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
The notice demands that he correct the false statement, publicly apologise and pay a compensation of Rs 1 crore for defaming the organisation.
The notice was sent through Adv. Amin Hassan. The statement made by the Jamaat-e-Islami national president on April 23 condemning the Pahalgam attack has been highlighted in the notice. The notice states that MV Govindan is trying to gain an advantage in the Nilambur by-election by spreading false propaganda and Islamophobia.
There are also allegations that MV Govindan is trying to create communal polarisation and communal rivalry among the Hindu and Christian communities by portraying a Muslim organisation as anti-national and dangerous.
The Pahalgam attack on April 22 caused widespread outrage alongside leading India to take countermeasures.
It is reported that at least five terrorists carried out the cold-blooded attack killing 25 tourists and a local pony ride operator at Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam.
The survivors recounted that the terrorists asked victims’ religion and shot them upon they said they were Hindus.
