Hyderabad: Police arrested 28-year-old man for stabbing to death his grandfather who is a well-known industrialist in the city.

Janardhan Rao, Managing Director of the 460-crore Veljan Group of Companies, suffered multiple injuries after Keerthi Teja allegedly stabbed him, according to NDTV..

The elderly industrialist, known for his philanthropy was killed over property dispute.

Veljan Group of Companies deals in hydraulics equipment, shipbuilding, energy and industrial applications.

Keerthi Teja, who returned from the US after a postgraduate course, visited his grandfather in Hyderabad along with his mother Sarojini Devi on Thursday night.

Sarojini Devi went to kitchen to make tea as Teja was speaking to his 86-year-old grandfather.

An argument broke out between them over a director position in the company.

Janardhan Rao recently made his eldest daughter’s son Srikrishna as director of Veljan Group.

However, the industrialist handed shares worth Rs 4 crore to Teja, the son of his second daughter Sarojini.

The conversation turned sour with Teja accusing his grandfather of unfair treatment and neglect since childhood.

In a fit of anger Teja allegedly stabbed Rao inflicting multiple injuries to the elderly man, with some reports claiming he was stabbed over 70 times.

However, police said only autopsy report could confirm exact number of wounds inflicted on the industrialist.

Teja reportedly stabbed his mother who rushed in to intervene in the commotion.

She has been hospitalised with four knife wounds.

Teja fled the scene after threatening the security guard who witnessed the horrifying incident.

Arrested later, Tejas was produced in court and sent to judicial custody.

Unconfirmed reports claimed that Teja was under the influence of drugs.

Rao is known to have made huge donations to the Government General Hospital in Eluru and the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam.
