Gandhinagar: A meeting convened by the Gujarat Muslim Hit Rakshak Samiti in Ahmedabad on Thursday decided to organise a statewide public awareness programme against the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill. The meeting passed a resolution to conduct the programme to educate and mobilise the Muslim community against the proposed bill, The Indian Express (TIE) reported.

The meeting also discussed the implications of the UCC and formulate a collective response. Other resolutions unanimously adopted include special meetings with religious scholars, legal experts, and community leaders to ensure a well-structured and legally sound response.

Samiti members are officially invited by the UCC panel, and they will finalise and submit bullet points by April 3 highlighting their concerns about the bill.

Core committee member of Gujarat Muslim Hit Rakshak Samiti, Sagirahmed Ansari, said that the Samiti will also engage with lawmakers, social organisations, and legal experts to present a strong case against the implementation of UCC along with launching a dedicated media and social media campaign to highlight the concerns of the community and spread awareness about its (UCC’s) impact.

It is learned that the organisation also decided to hold peaceful protests, rallies, and memorandum submissions to the authorities concerned as part of the campaign. Also, they will coordinate with national and state bodies opposing the UCC to strengthen collective efforts.

Ahmed said that the organisation remains committed to safeguarding the constitutional rights of all communities and will continue its efforts in a democratic and lawful manner, TIE reported.

Gujarat Muslim Hit Rakshak Samiti is an umbrella body of 12 organisations from Gujarat.
