In the aftermath of the devastating Air India crash in Ahmedabad, authorities have confirmed that DNA matching has been completed for 125 victims, with 83 bodies already handed over to grieving families.

Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi shared the update during a visit to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Gandhinagar, where teams have been working tirelessly to expedite the identification process.

Minister Sanghavi acknowledged the relentless efforts of forensic teams from the FSL and the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), saying, "...For the last many days, FSL and NFSU teams are tirelessly working round the clock. Till 10:58 pm, 131 patients' DNA have been matched, and in some time, 6 more DNA certificates will be sent to the Civil Hospital..."

He further noted that senior police and forensic officials have been staying on-site late into the night to oversee the identification process and ensure that families receive timely updates and support. The Gujarat government, in coordination with Ahmedabad’s Civil Hospital, is facilitating communication between officials and the victims’ families.

Dr. Rakesh Joshi, Superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, reported that DNA verification has been successfully completed for 119 individuals so far. He stated that among the remaining 43 deceased, the mortal remains of 14 are expected to be handed over to families by the next morning.

"As time is running, people are also going through panic. We are receiving panic calls. As we are matching DNAs, results will keep coming," Dr. Joshi said, emphasising the urgency and sensitivity of the situation.

The tragic incident occurred on June 12, when a London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a hostel complex shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The crash claimed the lives of 241 people, including passengers, crew, and former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
