India now has 99.1 crore voters, gender ratio improves to 954

New Delhi: The number of voters in India has risen to 99.1 crore, marking a significant increase from 96.88 crore during last year’s Lok Sabha elections, according to the latest figures from the Election Commission (EC).
In a statement released ahead of National Voters' Day, the EC highlighted a youthful and gender-balanced electoral roll. It reported that 21.7 crore electors fall in the 18-29 age group, reflecting a vibrant electorate. Furthermore, the gender ratio has seen an increase of six points, from 948 in 2024 to 954 in 2025.
National Voters' Day is observed annually on January 25 to commemorate the foundation of the Election Commission, which was established on this day in 1950.
Earlier this month, while announcing the Delhi assembly poll schedule on January 7, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar had predicted that India would soon break the record of one billion voters. "Electoral rolls were released on January 6. We are crossing 99 crore voters… We are on the verge of becoming a nation with over one billion voters, setting a new record," he said.
The CEC further mentioned that following the declaration of the Special Summary Revision (SSR) results by Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, and Punjab, India would surpass 99 crore voters for the first time. He also revealed that the number of female voters would be approximately 48 crore.
