Israel’s Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, hosted an iftar party at his residence in New Delhi, bringing members of the Muslim community, diplomats, and prominent figures.

Chief Imam Umer Ahmed Ilyasi attended the gathering along with ambassadors from several countries, including the UAE’s Ambassador Abdulnasser Alshaali and Azerbaijan’s Ambassador, while Arabic nasheeds were performed by musicians throughout the evening.

Sharing glimpses of the event on X, Israel in India described it as an unforgettable evening at Ambassador Azar’s residence, highlighting how the iftar gathering united community leaders and diplomats through food and music, and it emphasised the role of such gatherings in fostering stronger bonds among diverse communities.

Azar underscored the significance of Ramzan in Israel, explaining that Muslims constitute about 15 per cent of the population and that cities such as Haifa and Jerusalem actively observe the holy month, with around 75,000 worshippers visiting Al-Aqsa Mosque daily.

He further spoke about Israel’s global initiative of hosting iftar gatherings and expressed his honour at welcoming Imam Ilyasi and other guests in India, reaffirming Israel’s commitment to religious freedom while recognising the importance of this annual tradition.
