Jaipur’s SMS stadium receives bomb threat amid India-Pak tensions
text_fieldsJaipur: Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh (SMS) Stadium received a bomb threat via email on Thursday, prompting an immediate and large-scale security response from authorities.
The threat comes amid ongoing border tensions with Pakistan.
According to Rajasthan Sports Council president Neeraj K Pawan, the email arrived Thursday morning, warning of an explosion at the stadium just days before Rajasthan Royals' final IPL fixture against Punjab Kings on May 16.
"We will do a bomb blast in your stadium for the success of Operation Sindoor. Save everyone if you can," the email read.
Alarmed by the message, staff immediately alerted the police control room. In response, police officers, the Quick Reaction Team (QRT), and the bomb disposal squad were dispatched to the stadium.
Authorities evacuated the entire premises and launched a thorough search operation. So far, no suspicious items have been found in or around the stadium.
High-ranking officials, including Additional Police Commissioner Kunwar Rashtradeep and DCP South Digant Anand, arrived at the scene to oversee security measures.
The stadium has since been sealed off, and a cyber team has been deployed to trace the origin of the threatening email.
A similar bomb threat email was sent to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), causing a major security scare during the IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings at Eden Gardens on Wednesday.
The threats follow Indian armed forces' missile strikes under 'Operation Sindoor', targeting nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir early Wednesday, in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
