In Sukma village, Chhattisgarh, six Christian families were expelled after they refused to renounce their faith and convert to Hinduism, following persistent pressure from the local community. The village, which had 13 Christian families that had embraced Christianity six years ago, became a focal point of tension due to demands for religious conversion.
On April 12, the village sarpanch convened a gram sabha, where it was argued that the Christian families' faith violated the village’s traditional customs. The 13 families were given an ultimatum: either abandon Christianity or face expulsion. Seven families complied and agreed to convert to Hinduism, while six families stood firm in their belief and refused to renounce Christianity.
As a result, the sarpanch ordered the expulsion of the six families. Their belongings were loaded onto a tractor-trailer and discarded in a nearby forest. These families are now residing in the forest, displaced from their homes.
