New Delhi: The schedule for the forthcoming Lok Sabha and state Assembly elections will be announced on Saturday, according to a statement released by the Election Commission (EC) on Friday. The dates will be announced by the Commission at a press conference on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The term of the assemblies of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim will expire on June 11, June 2, June 24, and June 2, respectively. The 17th Lok Sabha's term is scheduled to finish on June 16, Indian Express reported.

The EC’s announcement comes just hours after election commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu took charge and joined Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar to complete the three-member Commission. The two had been appointed by the President on Thursday.

The previous time, on March 10, 2019, the EC released the election schedule. It had seven rounds of voting, from April 11 to May 19, with vote counting taking place on May 23.
