Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat exchange big cats in wildlife conservation initiative

In a strategic animal exchange program aimed at wildlife conservation, Madhya Pradesh's Van Vihar National Park will receive two pure-breed Asiatic lions from Gujarat in return for two Bengal tigers.
The Madhya Pradesh Forest Department announced via social media that the Bengal tigers have been transported to Sakkarbaug Zoological Park in Junagadh, Gujarat. In exchange, two Asiatic lions from the park, known for its Gir lions, will be relocated to Van Vihar National Park in Bhopal.
Located on the banks of the Upper Lake in Bhopal, Van Vihar National Park is set to enhance its biodiversity with the arrival of the lions. This exchange is part of an ongoing collaboration between the two states to promote the conservation and sustainable management of India’s iconic wildlife species.
