New Delhi: At least nine people were killed after fire broke out on an apartment building in Hyderabad on Monday, NDTV reported citing police.

A massive fire began to spread from the multi-storied building’s ground floor where some drums containing chemicals were stored.

Most of the victims were occupying the first and second floors as tenants and those living on the third and fourth floors also suffered minor injuries.

A senior Fire Department official said that over 20 people have been evacuated from the building.

The building owner, Ramesh Jaiswal who was using the ground floor as a godown for oil drums and cans, is on the run.

Firefighters were seen saving a child and mother who were trapped in the building.

Footage from the place, released by news agency ANI, showed the rescue team pulling out of the window the mother and the child using a temporary staircase.
