Man slapped on Mumbai-Kolkata IndiGo flight missing, family files complaint
text_fieldsGuwahati: A man seen in a viral video being slapped by a fellow passenger aboard an IndiGo flight has gone missing, prompting his family in Assam to file a police complaint. The missing passenger has been identified as 32-year-old Hussain Ahmed Majumdar, a resident of Cachar district. He was travelling from Mumbai to Silchar via Kolkata on IndiGo flight 6E-2387 on Friday.
According to reports, Majumdar suffered a panic attack mid-flight, following which cabin crew members assisted him upon landing. A video recorded by another traveller captured the moment Majumdar was being escorted off the aircraft when a co-passenger seated on the aisle stood up and slapped him without warning. Cabin crew immediately intervened, urging calm and trying to defuse the situation. Another passenger also protested against the attack.
The assailant was subsequently detained by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel upon arrival at Kolkata airport. However, Majumdar failed to board the connecting flight to Silchar and has not been heard from since. His family, who had been waiting for him at the Silchar airport, said they were unaware of the incident until they recognised him in the viral video circulating online. Since then, they have been unable to reach him, with his phone remaining switched off.
Majumdar’s father, Abdul Mannan Majumdar, told the media that the family has received no communication from IndiGo or airport authorities regarding his son's whereabouts. A missing persons complaint has been filed at the Udharbond Police Station in Assam, and CISF officials have also been informed.
IndiGo, in a statement on social media, acknowledged the in-flight incident and confirmed that the passenger who slapped Majumdar was deemed unruly and handed over to security personnel in Kolkata. The airline added that legal proceedings are underway and claimed that its crew followed all standard operating procedures during the event.
However, the statement did not address Majumdar’s disappearance or mention any steps being taken to trace him.
