Masque, Mumbai’s acclaimed fine-dining destination, has earned a coveted place on the 2025 extended list of The World's 50 Best Restaurants, securing the 68th position globally.

This makes it the only Indian restaurant to feature on the list that ranks the top 51 to 100 restaurants worldwide.

The announcement, made ahead of the official awards ceremony scheduled for June 19 in Turin, Italy, places Masque among prestigious global names, with entries spanning 37 cities across six continents. The extended list includes nine Asian restaurants, with Masque standing out as India’s sole representative.

Describing Masque as “arguably India’s most forward-thinking restaurant,” the 50 Best organisation highlighted its innovative approach to showcasing local ingredients through a meticulously curated 10-course tasting menu. “Masque’s raison d’être is to show off the wealth of the country’s produce, extracting maximum flavour from local ingredients... served in a stylish former Mumbai textile mill,” the organisation stated.

Founded by self-taught culinary entrepreneur Aditi Dugar in 2016, Masque has continually pushed the boundaries of Indian fine dining. After founding chef Prateek Sadhu’s departure in 2022, the kitchen has been led by chef Varun Totlani, who continues to elevate the restaurant’s culinary vision.

Masque’s rise in the global rankings follows its earlier recognition in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025 list, where it claimed the 19th position—making it the highest-ranked Indian restaurant in the region. Another Indian eatery, Indian Accent in Delhi, appeared at number 46 on the same list. The Asia edition also features an extended list with more Indian entries this year.

Although no India-based restaurants have recently broken into the global top 50, Indian cuisine continues to shine on the world stage through international establishments like Gaggan in Bangkok and Tresind Studio in Dubai, which frequently feature in the top tier.

Masque first entered the extended list in 2024 at number 78 and has now climbed 10 spots, reflecting its growing international reputation and consistent culinary innovation.

Some other notable entries are Den (Tokyo), Pujol (Mexico City), Le Bernardin (New York), and Labyrinth (Singapore).
