Massive layoffs continue at Infosys despite ongoing probe: report
text_fieldsBengaluru: IT giant Infosys has dismissed 370 trainees, which an organisation representing IT professionals called ‘illegal and unethical’.
The latest batch of trainees were showed the door for failing in the internal assessments on April 18, two months after laying off 400 trainees at the company’s Mysuru campus, The News Minute reported.
Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), the organisation representing IT professionals, has filed a second complaint with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
NITES in its complaint accused Infosys Ltd of having not followed due process, no communication to the Apprenticeship Adviser, further adding ‘No inquiry into the alleged performance or conduct of these trainees has been conducted. No termination orders have been issued by competent authorities as mandated under the statutory framework. The action of Infosys Ltd. is not only in breach of statutory law but is also a brazen affront to the authority of your Ministry and the institutions acting under it.’
This is the third complaint against the IT major in less than seven months with the first having shot off in October 2024 when 700 trainees were dismissed and subsequently the second complaint was filed in March 2025 when over 370 trainees were laid off.
Meanwhile, the probe is underway in these layoffs.
It is reported citing NITES and several employees that Infosys continues to coerce trainees into signing what the report said ‘resignation letters’ making them look like ‘voluntary’.
A 25-year-old employee told TNM that he received an email regarding his performance at the final attempt for assessment with a follow-up email directing him to a Human Resources meeting that day.
The young man, who having quit his previous job spent two years waiting for Infosys offer letter before joining the company on October 21, 2024, now feels completely devastated as he is left ‘without a permanent source of income, nothing’.
At the HR meeting he and 20 others were each taken into cubicle and forced to write resignation letters, reading ‘Resignation of my job position effective from today’.
The affected former employee reportedly said that trainees were given only a ‘six-week online training session before receiving the joining letter’, adding that only 150 trainees out of 700 cleared the first assessment test conducted in the second week of November.
Following this test, they were trained for the second assessment, the young man added that ‘the professionals hired for our training were average to below average. Then, for the third attempt, they gave us only three to four days of training and later told us to do self-study’.
It is reported that following the resignation letter and ‘Separation and General Release Agreement’, the trainees were told that they would receive relieving letter in 15-20 days and promised one month’s salary.
Also, the company reportedly promised a travel expense of Rs 3,800.
It is also reported that the company in its email alongside one month’s salary promised ‘outplacement support,’ and what the report said ‘a 24-week training program on IT fundamentals’ to help those pursuing career in IT sector.
